| Deborah Pollard was born and raised in Charlottesville, Virginia. The love of nature and all things beautiful was instilled in her from a very young age. Many hours were spent out of doors with her parents, gardening, walking through woods and by streams, learning the names and needs of many native and non-native plants and animals. The freedom to explore nature and play out of doors was also granted to her while she was young. Indeed many of her most pleasant memories are of playing on mossy roots, building dams in streams, catching tadpoles, frogs and turtles, and raising baby birds which had fallen from their nests. |
| When they saw her passion for drawing, her
parents encouraged her to follow her interests by introducing
her to a local watercolor artist. Deborah spent several summers
of Saturdays at the artist’s home studio learning to paint with
watercolors.
Although she began her college career (the first 3 years) as a Biology major, in 1982 Deborah graduated with her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Deborah, her husband, and their three children have called Hillsborough, NC home for the past 26 years. As a local artist, she has displayed her work in many local venues as well as the Visual Arts Exchange in Raleigh. She is a member of the Orange County Artists Guild. Deborah has been teaching children for over 19 years. She ran a small, in-home preschool when her children were young, homeschooled her three children through high school, taught drawing and painting to children and adults for 15 years, and has taught Pre-school and Kindergarten at The little School of Hillsborough for the last 2 years. A strong desire to provide an alternative, gentle approach to the education of young children, and one that instills a love of nature and beauty, has moved her to start her own half-day kindergarten. |
